My recent project was forced upon me by the abortion laws changing within the United States of America this past summer and got me delving into women’s rights and feminism. I was inspired by the shape of a sanitary towels and pill packets. I did initial works with sanitary towels collage the wrappers and making clay casts from pill packets as well. Made from red satin, ribbons, organza and tulle it’s a statement in itself. The free motion embroidery to create imagery of the vagina but also give the statement on the back of “No means No” to remind people of what is going on. If I had to make any alterations to the final dress I would of added additional hand embroidered statements or words to the dress and lengthened it to exaggerate the shape more to get a stronger silhouette. I added in pages of personal work that’s a mix of life drawing. This shows me working in a wide range of media’s and skills such as pencil, charcoal, ink, photography, photography on acetates, watercolour, coloured pencil, paint, fine liner, Pointillism and continuous line.
