In developing my designs, I took inspiration from lots of different sources. Brands like The Row, Yohji Yamamoto, and Maison Margiela inform my designs through their used of fabrics and cut. The idea that luxury garments are a form of art through their intricate design is something that really inspires me. The art of Pierre Soulages also really informs my design, specifically his idea of ‘outre-noir’ (beyond black). The idea that the colour black in art is extremely expressive also ties in with my favourite fashion designers’ aesthetics, as well as my own. My designs are mostly always black, and express simplistic silhouettes that are constructed to a higher standard. To me, they express a simplistic luxury, one of sophistication and quality that is very designed in nature. Like Soulages, my designs are bold and black, and have deeper meaning than what is immediately seen on the outside.
