Throughout the year, my artistic journey has been guided by the profound influence of Henri Matisse and his iconic cut-out style, infusing my designs with intriguing shapes that beautifully accentuate the human form. The relationship between Matisse's art and his declining health during the cut-outs era is an intimate connection. As his physical well-being declined, he adapted his artistic process, producing magnificent creations adorned with vibrant colors and organic contours. These cut-outs stood as a testament to his resilience, transcending physical limitations and becoming channels for boundless creativity. Matisse's unwavering commitment and passion full spirit left an everlasting legacy of artistic innovation, heavily inspiring my own projects.
Within fashion illustration, my distinctive style emerges with a prominent focus on lines and shapes. Each stroke meticulously captures the essence of the garments and the figures, weaving the contours and curves. This deliberate emphasis on line and shape primarily infuses my work with an elegant and dynamic quality, seamlessly merging fashion and art. My sketchy and unrefined style allows me to play with the illustrations in each project, so they are all unique to each garment/inspiration.
However, my final graded unit took an intriguing twist, diverging from my previous endeavors by embracing the inspiration of practical garments and the natural world. This exploration allowed me to immerse myself in the organic beauty of the outdoors, delving into the harmonious relationship between humanity and nature. The rugged landscapes influenced the silhouette, pocket shapes, and kimono sleeve design. My aim was to make an adventurous-looking jacket that would empower the wearer to freely explore the great outdoors while offering protection from the elements.
