PROJECT : Duvet Day

In our “new normal,” well-being takes priority as we look to an optimistic future that centers on thoughtfulness, rest and leisure. An increase in spending time at home leads to the manifestation of styling beyond the body as the home becomes an extension of personal style and vice versa. This holistic approach to lifestyle sees the amalgamation of interior and fashion design, resulting in plush protective garments and comfort-focused dressing. As we venture out of our homes, the feeling of “comfort” is replicated through outerwear garments in current seasons.

It is these ideas of comfort and down-time that inspire this project in which you are asked to focus on the idea of a “duvet day”. Think plush, soft, layered textures and garments that cocoon around the body. This unusual theme has room for personal exploration as you are asked to curate your own aesthetic around rest and recovery using garments, fabrics and scenery inspired by a duvet day.

Through the use of everyday soft furnishings, this project will explore ideas of comfort while also disrupting the traditional ideas of silhouettes through the application of interior elements to the body.

The tone of this project is one of optimism that celebrates well-designed garments bringing personality and pleasure to the everyday. It celebrates the warmth, quirkiness and reassurance of designs that will be loved long-term. " -wgsn

In keeping with the reflective nature of this project, you will explore slow fashion through a sustainable approach to fabric sourcing and re-purposing. A quality garment with longevity is created through strong construction and couture methods in latter studies.
