A constant theme in Alexander McQueen collections is female empowerment, which I’ve
incorporated into my final collection by juxtaposing typical masculine and boxy fits with feminine and tailored silhouettes. I like contrasting elements to create drama and emphasis, taking inspiration from McQueens use of metal hardware; I've exaggerated the amount of eyelets also chosen textured materials for more simple tailored pieces. In the past 2 years I’ve strengthened my skills in sewing, embellishments and knowledge of textiles. I really enjoy being hands on and found practical sewing units like bespoke tailoring most suited to myself. I love the creativity behind costume construction, ensuring they relate and respond to performances through concept, colour and textures. Fashion technology has prepared me to continue developing my skills at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where in September I’m excited to begin a degree in production art and design specialising in costume construction.
