Combining different mediums of art and creative expression is very important to me as a designer. I love to pay homage to the culture that has influenced my work and the way that I think. Music, literature and architecture are regularly referenced and weaved throughout my work to create depth and help convey my ideas. My collection this year is titled 16 Tones - taken from the Tennessee Ernie Ford workers song. It explores British industrialism, the social implications of its decline, the conditions that workers endured and the action which took place to improve these conditions. The two main sectors within British industry looked at were shipbuilding and coal mining, with a focus on the harsh, homogeneous side of the industry with imagery of machinery and hardware. Following my HND, I hope to engage in creative projects where I can collaborate with people with different artistic expertise like music production and videography, where I can continue to learn and expand my skills as a creative.
