“The straight line is an aggression against nature.” Architect Antti Lovag’s provocative statement catalysed Project Mercury – my exploration of the Space Age of the 60s and how the fundamentally innovative, explorative and optimistic attitudes it produced are especially relevant today. The collection plays with organic, fluid shape and minimalistic form and has designed with Lovag in mind. My strengths lie in using digital manipulation to push design boundaries, conceptual stand-work to develop and problem solve ideas, and fabric sampling to experiment with unconventional materials and reinterpret techniques that I admire - Paco Rabanne’s ‘no sew’ method for example.
I am most inspired by counterculture and youth movements, music, architecture and interiors. I believe so firmly in using fashion as an ongoing artistic expression; never complete, always evolving. Moving on to study at degree level, I hope to develop a practice that prioritises self-identity, sustainability and integrity, collaborating with creatives who share similar ideals.
