For the following collection I have found inspiration in multiple different areas, including military wear, traditional Japanese clothing, and brutalist architecture. The military and Japanese influence comes into light mainly in my statement piece, a forest green knee length coat, with additional pockets on both the arms and either side of the front. I started by looking at the armour plating worn by samurai, seeing how I could involve the same level of layering into my collection, settling on pockets representing this. In addition, military wear offers up countless ideas that can be used for clothing collections, for example the entire silhouette of my coat has taken on a very militaristic composition, with its extended body, deep high standing collar and overall utility. For my collection I relied mainly on more conventional techniques, the development process heavily involved the dissection of different artistic and cultural references, looking at sculpture, structures, abstract paintings and even furniture. My aim with this work was to achieve an understated outfit that whilst being relatively tame at a glance, is backed up with meaning and detail in the quality of its production and fit.
