As a designer I see fashion as a medium to explore, push limits and better understand the world around me. I believe that conceptual design is a form of fashion that allows us to do that the best, removing the conventional functionality from a garment and instead using it to tell a story. I find inspiration in my own personal experiences and the social political issues that are impacting our lives. These ideas heavily inspired me in my final year project, dreamscape. Exploring the romanticism of childhood innocence and the mental process of dissociating from ones reality, escaping to another world that is safer and comforting. Using the practice of unconventionality and conceptual design, I tried to create a collection that was heavily textured, vibrant and obscure.
My work has a lot of areas to grow and develop, I believe I will achieve this best at university. I hope to become a designer that’s work will bridge the gap between the maker and consumer by evoking emotion and telling a story that connects with the audience. I have no exact dream career but I am excited to become part of the industry and find my place within it.
