Creating is how I connect to the world; it leads me to new places and brings all kinds of people into my life. It requires me to learn again and again, to ask questions and to discover the answers. It has led me to learn more about myself. I’ve discovered that I tend to find comfort in working with organic and abstract shapes. I can always find them in nature amongst the broken-down leaves or the bark of a tree, this became a focus in my wallpaper project,” Contemporary Jungle”. Within this project I discovered how much I loved to work with the colour green. I learnt how to balance the different shades and tones within green and push it to its full potential within a collection. I often work with strong colours within textiles, and I became interested in the dyeing process, in particular natural dyes. I find that across all the textiles specialisms, I always see a strong connection between creating and the natural world. Whether we directly use nature to create our work or simply just taking inspiration from all the wonders it puts before us, I believe it’s a bond that will never die. I am excited to say that I will be progressing onto Heriot Watt to specialise in Knit.
