HOLLY FORBES

(She/Her)

I used to stare longingly at my Mum’s oil paintings, ignoring the beautiful scene she had created but rather wishing I could rub my hands along the bumpy, warped build up of the oil paints she had used. If you’ve visited any art gallery, you’ll know the paintings come with a ‘DO NOT TOUCH’ warning. Inside the walls of my own home however, I’d touch the painting.

I love expressive textures and tactile surfaces. Surfaces that draw you in. This is something I strive for in my work, adding depth and intrigue to my designs by taking a multidisciplinary approach and combining medias to create unique outcomes. Adding hand embroidery onto weave, hand embellishing on to printed surfaces or utilising negative space to create interesting shapes. Pushing my designs beyond the realm of ‘the norm’.
