This project creates a paradox. Women are systematically shamed by media for their natural
bodies. By exaggerating such natural shapes in a way that almost seems unnatural due to the
scarcity of viewing the human figure in this presence, I can push boundaries within my
practice, making a viewer almost feel uncomfortable however posing the question as to why
they feel this way?
Fashion Design is an opportunity for celebration of diversity whilst simultaneously encouraging
a sense of unity. I draw my inspiration from such, fuelling my adoration for my craft. The
opportunity to create such a communicative media, holding infinite potential to translate
societal and political messages, is something extremely valuable. Gravitating toward contour
fashion, I am interested in the ways that garments can manipulate the silhouette of the body
as well as the garment itself, allowing wearers to experiment with views on physical beauty
and liberation of sexuality.
